Abstract

A nonlinear partial differential equation for axial wave propagation in a nonlinearly elastic pile with a circular cross section has been developed that takes into account the transverse displacement due to axial wave. A theoretical solution is derived that represents a solitary wave. The relation between this equation and the K-dV or MK-dV equation has been established and indicates a way of applying the Soliton Theory to earthquake engineering. Simulations for simple wave inputs are also shown.
