Abstract

We here discuss the wave force acting on armour rubble on a rubble-mound slope based on laboratory experiments. The wave force was measured directly then decomposed into the drag and inertial forces with engineering applications in mind.

Characteristics of the total force, the drag and inertial forces, and their coefficients were investigated in relation to wave kinematics. We found that the inertial force generally cannot be neglected as compared to the drag force and that the coefficients of the drag and inertial forces in the range of K-C numbers>15 generally are smaller than those obtained for a single sphere in oscillatory flow experiments.
