Abstract
The effect of fault distance on human casualty caused by earthquake was clarified. In this paper, we treated 7 inland type earthquakes and 1 oceanic type earthquake which had occurred before 1950 in Japan. The data of housing damage were classified to different ranks. Under certain rank of housing damage, the effect of fault distance on human casualty was investigated with the method of statistical tests of significance. The result of this study shows that the ratio of human casualty at nearer area to the seismic source was heigher than that in far away. We consider that the difference of human casualty rate is related with the difference of collapse mode of houses.
