Abstract
　Nine typhoons passed through near Kyushu District from l980 to l984. The coastal area of Kumamoto Prefecture suffered disasters from the waves and rainfall caused by the typhoons. The aim of this report is to relate the characteristics of the disaster to the natural conditions, especially the course of typhoon. The typhoon process and the wave magnitude at some coasts are discussed. It is shown that the location of damaged structures and the pattern of damage are affected by the typhoon and rainfall. Some results obtained in this research give variable information for preventing disasters and for natural disaster science.
