Abstract
The aim of this paper is to estimate maximum wave height distribution
generated by huge monsoons and typhoons of the past fifty years in the
Western Seto Inland Sea from wave hindcasting on the basis of a spectral
wave prediction model in shallow water. First, the applicability of the
model is confirmed by the comparison of the computed and observed wave
heights for three monsoons and three typhoons in recent years. Second,
the wave hindcasting is carried out for five huge typhoons which attacked
the concerned area in the past fifty years. Alongshore distribution of
maximum wave height generated by severe storms in the past fifiy years
is evaluated from the abovementioned results and compared with that of
design wave heigh of the coastal structures in the area.
