Abstract

The surface pressure profiles of forty typhoons which landed on the main islands of Japan from 1951 to 1978, with central pressures below 980 mb, were analyzed to provide generalized typhoon specifications. The hourly position of the center, the central pressure depth, and the radius of maximum cyclostrophic wind were objectively evaluated from surface weather reports. With these evaluations, statistical properties of pressure profiles at the time of landing and their modifications after landing were investigated.
