Estimation of Wave Climate in Lake Kasumigaura Based on Wave Hindcasting

Abstract
This paper presents wind and wave climates in Lake Kasumigaura which is the second largest lake in Japan. Wind climate is estimated from wind data observed over 1 year every 1 hour at the lake center, so-called Koshin, which shows small seasonal variation of monthly-averaged wind speed with predominant wind directions varying every season. A hybrid parametric wave prediction model is applied for wave hindcast over 1 year in 1991, in which hindcasts show overall agreement with observations at two points. Wave climates in the lake are estimated, based on the hindcasted results at 14 representative points in and around the lake. Conclusions are that wave climate changes point by point corresponding to the fetch characteristics at each point, but that the feature of wave climate with small seasonal variation is common to all the points investigated.
