秋田県熊沢川土石流災害に関する速報

Preliminary Report on Damage by Debris Flow in Kumasawa River, Akita Prefecture

Abstract

A study on human and building damage by the debris flow on 11 May 1997 through interviews to local people and staffs of fire department and city hall is carried out. In spite of the large in scale and volume of landslide followed by the debris flow causing 16 destroyed houses, no casualty and injured are reported. The forerunning phenomenon of a landslide such as white colored water and cracks on roads after heavy rainfall on 8 May were carefully observed by the owner of the Sumikawa hot spring, initiating a quick contact to the fire department and prompt evacuation.
