Abstract
There are 86 active volcanoes in Japan, which means that Japan is the second country in number of active volcano. The scenery in volcanic area is commonly beautiful and the hot springs in and around the active volcano can give us the physical and mental relaxation. Furthermore, the hot water supplied from the ground can be used to generate electricity, to cultivate the flower and vegetables in the greenhouse and to heat room as the clean energy. On the other hand, the volcanic activities occasionally bring about the disaster such as the Unzen-Fugendake Disaster in Nagasaki.
In this paper the former is named as the positive factor and the latter as the negative factor. Then the approach to establish the volcanic engineering as the synthetic engineering is discussed, and the terms to be treated and the research subjects in the volcanic engineering are shown.
